If these walls could talk: Historic homes for sale with a story to tell

Step into a world where history breathes, and stories echo through the hallowed halls of centuries past. Each brick, beam, and wall carries with it the whispers of a bygone era, offering a unique glimpse into the lives and legacies of those who came before us.

Built around 1765, Vernon house was originally a single property that was divided in two to house farmworkers' families in the 1800's. In the early 1900's some notable changes were made to the property. It was rendered around 1914, and in the early 1920's the shop to the side was substantially altered, perhaps even rebuilt. For many years it was run by Daniel Gisby, and with the name “D Gisby, Post Office, Tobacconist & Confectioner”.

The property has recently been beautifully restored, with the shop area now replaced with a driveway, bathroom and utility area. The property is set over 3 floors with the living area on the ground level and two generous double bedrooms on each of the other levels. Set in the seaside town of Whitstable, the property is in a great location for nearby convenience stores, schools, commuter links by rail or car and the beach with its skate park and sailing club.

This charming and historical country house is located on a quiet lane just down from the picturesque church in this peaceful village. The postcard featured (bottom right) shows the property in 1943 when it was owned by a Commander Bernard. In 1950 the building was sympathetically split to create two individual homes, The Grange and Abbots Grange. Today, the property is Grade II Listed with spacious rooms and period features throughout. The gardens are truly magnificent with a semi-circular dressed stone wall enclosing the terrace and inner garden, complete with a water feature.

This charming and unique second floor apartment is located within a striking and well-maintained Grade I listed Queen Anne mansion house surrounded by beautiful, uninterrupted countryside. Former home to the Earl of Guilford, the mansion was built c1710 and sympathetically converted in the late 1970's to include a wonderful selection of apartments and mews cottages. The apartment itself features period features throughout including high ceilings, sash windows and an open fireplace.

This enchanting Grade II Listed semi-detached cottage is ideally located in the picturesque village of Pluckley. The village is steeped in history and has its own train station, primary school, farm shop and general store with a post office making it an attractive place to live for growing families and commuters. This attached cottage has been renovated and restored to an exceptional standard featuring distinctive local ‘Dering’ style round headed windows within brick elevations beneath a Kent peg tiled roof. Internally there are beamed ceilings, wooden latched doors and a charming inglenook fireplace complete with bressumer beam and wood burning stove.

This romantic, detached, Grade II listed property is located in a conservation area and consists of two former cottages that date back to around the 1600s with an abundance of original features and all of its original charm. Both cottages and their gardens are mentioned in a Will by Bennet Austen of Wingham in 1621, an ancestor of Jane Austen. Over the years, it has been home to farm workers, home bakers, artists and writers. The property was completely restored and refurbished in 2018 using materials faithful to the original build wherever possible. Whilst some of the timbers are still those of the original build, the current owners have also sympathetically modernised this listed property for contemporary living.
